How to Turn Lots of Dollars Into Very Few Euros

Peer out this window, please.
This is a view of the French countryside from 25,000 feet.

We were heading to Toulouse on an Airbus, how appropriate!

This was my view in 2005.

This again will be my view in a few months!

We are now proud owners of a series of numbers that will, when decoded at the airport, get us on an airplane bound for La Belle France! (E-tickets. I sure miss paper tickets, there's something about them that are more exciting, more official feeling.)

Anyhow, we are going to stay a whole month....

....but it won't be in Paris.

Is anyone interested in a Virtual Tag-Along to see what treasures and adventures can be found outside of Paris? The dollar is weak, so I won't be indulging in high-euro priced eats*. I will promise you lots of gorgeous photos or rustic places, beautiful buildings, scrumptious food and details, details details!!! I promise to bring you the true France. The France I told you about in the beginning. Frustrating, intoxicating, fabulous.

*But my friend in Paris is going to bring me a box of Laduree macarons! This is what she wrote to me last week:
MACARONS are absolutely DELICIOUS
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are the best « cookies » of the world !
The best ones are those you can find at “ladurée” in paris. When I visit you
in Toulouse I bring you a box with all kind of tastes yummy !

How nice that you get to spend some time in France again. I hope the exchange rate doesn't get too much worse in the next few months.

It sure is something else than just seeing the capital. To me seeing just Paris is like visiting New-York and pretending you know everything about the country.
Let me know if you need tips on what to see, I have a tourism (and tour guide diploma) obtained in Midi-Pyrenees. Niaux (cave), Carcassonne and Sarlat are definitely good places to see in the South-West.

Lucky, lucky you! I am thrilled for you!! I cannot wait to hear about your process up to your trip and then, of course, a detailed report of your trip. I am committing to July in Paris. Unlike you, I won't have tickets or numbers to hold onto, as I will go standby to get a ridiculously great rate.

Wow..Congrats on a whole month in France. Sounds like loads of fun coming up. I am jealous over those Macarons you are promised & from Laudree at that. Now if you could combine a litte Art & impressionist viewing in that trip itinerary.. it would be perfect. ;)

Merci everyone!!!! It's bittersweet...I'm excited to go back, but the dollar being so weak is so discouraging. :(

CECY-You are right about the New York analogy. That was the perfect way to explain it! I would love some tips about where to go, places we haven't been yet. We are very familiar with some places, but I'd like to see new ones! I'll let you know where I've been already and then maybe you can make some suggestions?

LBR-SUPER COOL that you are going too!!!! For the whole month of July????? I'm dying to hear all about it! And I'm super jealous that you get a great deal on your flight! Although the price we got wasn't too bad.

Sure thing, I sent you an email regarding this.

CC, That's wonderful!!! I'm so happy for you and am looking forward to your posts updating us on your preparations, and most of all, your trip itself. Will you be blogging as you go?

Salut,
Marjorie

Do I ever know that view from the plane...

Will you be near Albi? Or near Toulouse? The building looks familiar to me but I can't quite place it.

Betty,
We'll be near Toulouse. The building is on Rue Saint Rome, between Capitole and Esquirol.
I love this street!
